UL LIFE Program Welcomes New Students and New Components
Fall 2018 for the UL LIFE Program has been full of excitement!
The UL LIFE Program started off by welcoming four new freshman into the program and congratulating all of the other students on moving up another year. Getting in the groove of the semester is always a process, but once our students adjust, time does not slow down. We blinked and it was almost October, which meant it was time to start thinking of what was next for the UL LIFE Program.
New student applications went live early in the Fall 2018 semester for the Fall 2019 semester. The word spread quickly that there would be a new component of UL LIFE beginning Fall 2019. For the first time ever, UL LIFE students will be eligible to live in on-campus housing!
This is something our staff, parents, and students have been looking forward to for a long time. Sharing this news has brought inquiries and interest about the program from families outside of the area and surrounding areas, even from other states, which fills us with joy knowing that so many young people want to be a part of the UL LIFE Program and the Ragin' Cajun family here at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Students will live in the Rose Garden dormitories and receive all the benefits of being a residential student.
UL LIFE Program is also now fully incorporated in UL Lafayette Preview Day. At the October 20th Preview Day, there were eight families present, with 28 attendants total. Two UL LIFE mentors participated in the student organization fair to tell prospective students about the mentor program.
Our current students are undergoing advising for the spring semester. This always brings excitement as our students love taking new classes and exploring different areas of learning on campus. Students audit classes in their area of academic interest, and for our first-year students, this is their initial opportunity to identify the focus area they would like to pursue.
Four students will begin their on-campus internships beginning in the spring semester. UL LIFE students work all over campus from Dining Services to the Child Development Center. We are currently looking to expand internships to include off-campus placements, allowing our fourth-year students to gain experience in the community in addition to their on-campus placement. We are excited about the support we have received with this initiative from the local community and businesses.
While the semester is not over yet, our fourth-year students are already looking forward to the excitement and activities that are to come for their spring graduation.
